Our favourite female pirate is back in the Caribbean Anne 2! It’s only been a few years since Kalamba Games released the original Caribbean Anne, but if you look at the two games side by side, they could be from different decades.

The clunky visuals of the original, which made it look like a video game from the early 1990s, have been completely transformed in this much-needed makeover.

The 5×4 grid is now set against an immersive treasure island background. And the pirate premiums have also been redone to look more convincing, although they all keep their cartoonish character. Even the low-pay 9 to A card ranks look more polished.

And it’s not just the visuals that are improved. Gameplay has also been tweaked to make it more entertaining, not to mention potentially rewarding. The action still revolves around the idea of Locking Wilds, but there’s been a major change to how it is implemented.

Game Features

The regular Wild symbol helps complete winning combos by standing in for all regular symbols and paying 5x the stake for 5 on a payline.

When the pistol-toting Anne lands, she won’t give any payouts of her own. But she will leave a  sticky Wild Frame on the reels. And if she lands in a position that’s already framed, she’ll increase the multiplier on all the Wild Frames in view by +1, up to a max of  x30.

A blue cannon needs to land anywhere in view to activate these Wild Frames. This activates the Locking Wild Respin feature. If the position is already framed, the cannon adds a final wild frame to its position or +1 to the multiplier. Then all framed positions become Sticky Multiplier Wilds for one respin. At the end of the respin, the grid resets, and the cycle starts over.

Three treasure chest scatters in view trigger the Bonus Round and award a 1x scatter win. The Free Spins continue until the Locking Wild Respin feature has triggered three times. And the grid doesn’t reset between triggers, so there are more wild frames on the reels for each trigger! Plus, two special cannon symbols can land in the bonus round only:

• The +1 Cannon boosts all the wild frame multipliers by +1 before triggering the feature.
• The 2x Cannon doubles the wild frame multipliers and triggers the feature.

There’s also a HyperBonus feature available to non-UK players, which gives the option of buying Locking Wild Respins for multiples of the bet.

All in all, this sequel is an improvement on the original game. Not only is it much easier on the eye, but the gameplay has also been vastly improved by doing away with the original 10-spin cycle used for the wild frame build-up in the original.
